Amending DebiChecks

All DebiCheck mandates can be amended and retain their original authentication key. However, under some circumstance a re-authentication or new DebiCheck mandate may be required. You can perform an amendment on a registered mandate, via our straight through DebiCheck banking methods, or use your own DebiCheck authentication solution. BankTech DebiCheck amendments can be performed in 2 ways:

POST: /mandates/dc/amend

This will amend a registered DebiCheck mandate.

  • Rate limit: 1 per second

  • Payload size: 1 DebiCheck mandate

POST: /banking/dc/amend

This will amend a non-registered DebiCheck mandate.

  • Rate limit: 1 per second

  • Payload size: 1 DebiCheck mandate

If you want to use our banking DebiCheck amendment method for straight through processing, you will need to have an appropriate authentication profile with your acquiring bank and give us the details of that profile to configure it's availability through our API. You can learn more about how this is done by visiting our processing models and managing bank profiles articles.

If you are using our banking DebiCheck amendment method, you can give us the DebiCheck authentication key to use on a registered mandate by amending that mandate. You could also provide it to us for use on an ad-hoc collection by amending that collection.

Amendment scenarios

Depending on which fields of a DebiCheck mandate are amended, there are various re-authentication scenarios and therefore pros and cons of amending certain fields. You should carefully analyse which fields can be made to be as flexible as possible to reduce the frequency of amendments and maximise the success rate of re-authentications or re-registrations of DebiCheck mandates.

Amendment, local update on mandate only:

  • Entry class

  • Accounting reference

  • External reference

  • Preferred service type

Amendment, debtor notified only:

  • Adjustment category

  • Maximum collection amount

  • Collection amount

  • Tracking allowed

  • Creditor ultimate name

  • Debtor name

  • Debtor ID number

  • Debtor account type

  • Debtor account number

  • Debtor name

  • Debtor email

  • Debtor phone number

  • Tracking days

Amendment + re-authentication by debtor required:

  • Adjustment category

  • Use adjustment amount

  • Adjustment amount

  • Use adjustment rate

  • Adjustment rate

  • Contract reference

  • Tracking days (If 'Tracking days' is increased on amendment)

  • Max collection amount (When adjustment category is Never)

  • First collection date

  • First collection amount (When adjustment category is Never)

  • Collection amount (When adjustment category is Never)

  • Collection day

  • Date adjustment allowed

New mandate required:

  • Collection frequency

  • Initiation date

  • Adjustment category (If adjustment category was "Never" or is being set to "Never", a new mandate is required)

  • Debtor branch code

  • Debtor identification type

  • Client reference

  • Collection amount

  • Collection type

  • Instalment occurrence

  • Preferred Bank

  • Authentication instrument

  • Debit value type

  • Mandate reference number (DebiCheck authentication key)

You can continue to collect on the old DebiCheck mandate's authentication key while seeking a new authentication key on the newly registered mandate.

If you need to re-register your DebiCheck mandate, you can retain the old DebiCheck mandate by registering a new DebiCheck mandate with a different contract reference and mandate identification. You can then decide whether you want to pause the old DebiCheck mandate with BankTech until you are sure you have secured the authentication on the newly registered mandate.
